New Muslim Transitional Housing

Because Shahada is just the beginning…

“The Prophet, SAW, was asked, “Which charity is best? He replied: That which you give while you fear poverty.”
“They ask you (O Muhammad) what they should spend in charity. Say: ‘Whatever you spend with a good heart, give it to parents, relatives, orphans, the helpless, and travellers in need. Whatever good you do, God is aware of it.’” – The Holy Quran, 2:215

OUR MISSION

Masjid Al Farooq’s New Muslim Transitional Housing (NMTH) program exists to provide safe, faith-centered housing and holistic support for newly converted Muslims.

Often these new Muslims face homelessness, family rejection, or hardships.

We are committed to ensuring that no new Muslim is left alone after Shahada.

We are offering them a stable Islamic environment, spiritual guidance, and essential resources to build a dignified, self-sufficient life.

DID YOU KNOW?

Every year, newly converted Muslims in Chicago are kicked out of their homes, disowned by their families, and left with nowhere to go, simply because they chose Islam.

R

Rejected by Family

She took her shahada with trembling hands only to come home to a locked door.

Many of our brothers and sisters are disowned the moment they embrace Islam. No farewell. No second chance. Just silence.

R

Locked out of their homes.

They lose everything in an instant, housing, safety, the only life they’ve known.

With nowhere to go, some new Muslims often sleep in cars, shelters, or on the street. Simply because they chose faith over comfort..

R

Held by faith.

And yet they hold on.
With no one else, they cling to prayer.

They walk into the Masjid barefoot, tearful, and hoping that someone will notice.

R

Starting Over with Nothing

No suitcase. No savings. Just a heart full of hope.

New Muslims arrive with only the clothes on their back and a quiet dua that someone, somewhere, will help them rebuild from the ground up.

At Masjid Al Farooq, we offer more than a roof. We offer a way forward.

WHAT WE PROVIDE

We currently operate 5 transitional houses with a 6th in progress insha Allah, serving both brothers and sisters who have no other support system after accepting Islam.

Starting in 2011, Masjid Al Farooq’s Outreach Committee purchased two halfway houses to host and shelter new and homeless Muslims, one for sisters and one for brothers.

Due to the increasing demand in the following years, we purchased three more halfway houses to provide our sisters and brothers a safe, Islamic environment, Alhamdulillah.

Each house hosts up to 6 individuals, creating a small, supportive, family-like environment.
